Illustrated art print of Beigel Bake, Brick Lane – iconic 24-hour London bagel shop captured in a hand-drawn East London scene.

The Beigel That Never Sleeps

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Beigel Bake has been a Brick Lane fixture since 1976. Known for salt beef, gherkins and mustard in a soft, warm beigel, it draws queues at all hours.

A Little History

Before salt beef made it famous, Beigel Bake was known for classic fillings like smoked salmon and cream cheese, chopped herring, egg mayo and cheddar. It wasn’t until a local Jewish deli closed that they decided to try their hand at salt beef—and the rest is history. It’s now the go-to order and one of the most talked-about bagels in London.

Whether it’s 3pm or 3am, Beigel Bake’s doors never close. It’s a favourite with night owls, cabbies, and anyone after something tasty post-pub. They even stay open on Christmas Day. And if you’re not local, you can now get their bagels delivered—just head to their website and set up a delivery.

The two most famous Beigel shops: Beigel Bake and Britains First Beigel Shop!

Two Beigel Shops, One Street

Yes, there are two beigel shops on Brick Lane. Right next door to Beigel Bake is Britain’s First Beigel Shop—and it’s sparked endless debates over which one’s better. I’ve illustrated both in my London print series. They’re landmarks in their own right and make great gifts for anyone who knows and loves the area.
